A brief explanation about Formosa Investments History;
With emerging markets expanding in Asia, it finally became a realisation to set up Formosa Investment B.V. in 2004, solely for the export of floricultural goods. Initially for supply of Northern China and Taiwan. For several years the company traded succesfully and had set up several business partners. In 2012, the company had undergo a major change. Through our connections in China, Formosa was able to connect with Vietnam and ever since invested in the opportunities there. Early 2012, the first flower bulbs were exported to Hanoi.
With this market expanding rapidly, Vietnam became the main market in 2013. Up until that moment, the company was run by Gert van der Velden. Very traditional and in line with Dutch culture, his son, Freek van der Velden started working for Formosa in 2011.
In August 2013, Freek bought all shares in order to develop the Vietnamese market even further. In order to secure the opportunities of the emerging market, Freek resides in Hanoi partially, with an overseas office in Hanoi at Tay Ho Lake (West Lake).
Our presence abroad allows us to stay up to date with the developments. Hanoi is the basis for all other exports and from here everything is coordinated. Still working closely with his father, Freek is enabled to buy bulbs from his chair in Hanoi and outsource the logistics. In this way, there is more time to develop other markets in the future, namely Philippines and Myanmar.
